BETIC ROMAN ROUTE

The Roman Baetica Route today passes through fourteen cities in the provinces of Seville, Cadiz and Cordoba. It runs through the southernmost province of Roman Hispania and covers territories through which the ancient Via Augusta passed. This route includes landscapes of great geographical and natural interest, such as the Subbética Cordobesa Natural Park, the countryside, the Bay of Cadiz Natural Park and the Guadalquivir Valley.

From the 3rd century BC to the 5th century BC, Andalusia was one of the territories annexed to the Roman Empire. Under Roman rule, this geographical area was renowned for its mining, olive and cereal production and for the high level of Romanisation of its inhabitants. Proof of the degree of Romanisation achieved by this province is the rise to imperial power at the end of the 1st century and during the 2nd century of two Betic emperors: Trajan and Hadrian, both of whom were born in Italica.

ALMEDINILLA

This emblematic village located in the southeast of the province of Cordoba, 110 km from the capital, on the border with Granada and Jaen, offers us a walk through time and culture, through nature and history, through past and present that merge to dream of the future.

Almedinilla is located in the centre of Andalusia, between the neighbouring towns of Priego de Cordoba and Alcala la Real, right at the point where the provinces of Cordoba, Jaen and Granada meet.

To speak of Almedinilla is to speak of archaeology, of culture, as do its important archaeological sites: the Roman Villa of "El Ruedo" and the Iberian settlement of "El Cerro de la Cruz", both declared site of cultural interest. These, together with the Historical-Archaeological Museum, form part of the Ecomuseum of the Caicena River, a proposal to investigate, maintain, conserve and disseminate this cultural wealth.

This important heritage has made it possible to develop a unique, varied and high quality tourist, leisure and cultural offer. More than well known are the Roman meals, called LOS PLACERES DE LA MESA ROMANA, which are held every weekend. Special meals that maintain the rites, characteristics, traditions and flavours of the time (made with the first century recipe book of Marco Gavius Apicius), enjoying during the course of the same with a unique theatrical recreation (Award for "Best Innovative Tourist Product" in the province of Cordoba). Offering the visitor to live a world of sensations.

We invite you to get to know this beautiful village and its natural environment, to stroll through its streets and meet its people, we invite you to a walk through history, culture and tradition. Come and enter the Land of Dreams.
